Brief Description:
This patent describes the first ever use of the markers to identify regions, QTL and genes for improving resistance to Sudden Death Syndrome that would include pyramids with other technologies like SCN resistances. The SDS resistance has been proven in other legumes and brassicas. Resistance has the added benefit of yield increases derived from better root growth. All twelve of the known loci are covered by this patent.
Patent Status:
U.S. Patent No. 6,300,541, issued October 9, 2001. Additional patent pending.
Potential Commercial Uses:
This invention may substantially increase soybean disease resistance and, therefore, yields (via marker-assisted selection). The markers may also be used to clone the genes for resistance enabling their transfer among elite cultivars by transformation.
