Enzymic Microassay for Measurement of Chlorite
Project Leader: John D. Coates
Unit: College of Science, Dept. of Microbiology
Brief Description:
This invention involves using the activity of the enzyme peroxidase, which converts chlorite into chlorine dioxide, in order to determine chlorite concentrations. This measurement system, already in kit form, is simple, quick, and needs only a relatively inexpensive and well proven spectrophotometer for use.
Patent Status:
Patent pending. U.S. patent application no. 20040137553.
Potential Commercial Uses:
This chlorite measurement method may have multiple commercial advantages including:
- Measurement of perchlorate and chlorate as well as chlorite.
- Inexpensive and quick detection.
- Ease of use in the field.
- Low interference assay.
- High accuracy.
- High reproducibility.
- Highly conservative of samples.
